Citation Analysis Continued


It is possible to make some educated guesses about what these results might mean.  For example:
  • the most cited paper looks like it might be a seminal paper in this field; it is older, and the author, Sweller, is also an author on several other papers in this list;
  • the second result is a review article; recall that review articles tend to have high citation rates;
  • the next four papers in the list look like they are coming from several different disciplinary perspectives:  neuroscience, psychology, management, and education.
Of course, these observations need to be validated by more in-depth examination of the literature, but they do provide some intriguing hints about the nature and development of this topic.
